💙 Everything About Raleigh's Groundbreaking 29-Story Resort & Hotel
Published 25 days ago • 4 min read
Happy Friday, Triangle!
Raleigh’s got that fun downtown buzz this week with the soft opening of The Newsagent on Fayetteville Street. Used books, vinyl, VHS, comics — it’s like the coolest little analog escape right in the middle of everything. I love seeing spots like this pop up that instantly feel like a community hangout.
Today’s sitting around 55 degrees with those cloudy, cozy vibes. But wait until you see this weekend. Sunshine and about 65 on Saturday, then warming up to around 74 on Sunday. That’s the kind of weather that makes you want to grab your sunglasses and actually stay outside for a while.

🚨 March 2 Alert for NC Parents
Quick heads up for families thinking ahead.
The NC Opportunity Scholarship deadline is March 2. This program helps eligible families cover private school tuition across North Carolina, and if you’ve been even considering it, now’s the time to look into it.
The application window for the next school year closes on Monday, so don’t wait on this one.
What it means: The Raleigh market is starting to cool slightly, but it still leans in favor of sellers. Prices have ticked up, while homes are taking a bit longer to sell, signaling a more balanced pace. Buyers have more room to negotiate, but limited inventory keeps sellers in a steady position.
[I]N THE NEWS
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
Raleigh’s Omni Hotel Is Officially Under Construction
Driving the news: Construction is officially underway on the Omni Hotel at the end of Fayetteville Street, and this is the anchor hotel tied to the City’s Raleigh Convention Center expansion.
The site is fenced off and crews are tearing up the parking lot across from the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts.
Why it matters: Hotels aren’t flashy, but they’re the practical ingredient that helps a city land bigger conventions, and that ripple hits restaurants, bars, and venues fast.
Downtown businesses feel the event calendar (Element Gastropub mentioned a 30% sales drop tied to fewer Red Hat Amphitheater events last year).
The big picture: This is Raleigh making a long-term play to level up the “weekend + convention + show” combo downtown, the kind of momentum that keeps people from defaulting to Charlotte or Atlanta for the big-name stops.
What’s next: Site work is happening now, with the Omni on a long runway to 2028. The big thing to watch is how the Convention Center expansion timeline lines up, because the full impact is the hotel plus the expanded capacity.

Pollen season is coming… start prepping your home now.
Around here, that yellow layer usually hits hard in late March. Replace your HVAC filters early, schedule pressure washing if you’ve been thinking about it, and don’t wait until everything’s coated. A little prep now saves a lot of frustration later.
