Kane Realty Looks to Expand Into Cary With Two New Developments
|
▷ Driving the news
Cary could be getting nearly 500 new homes across two major mixed-use projects. If you've been watching how fast Cary is changing, this fits right into the story.
Kane Realty, the developer behind Raleigh’s North Hills transformation, is now turning its attention to Cary with two proposed projects: Flatiron in downtown Cary’s West End and 7001 Weston along Weston Parkway.
▷ Flatiron in downtown Cary
The first project, Flatiron, would be a seven-story apartment and retail building at 602 W. Chatham Street and 523 Old Apex Road.
This is a highly visible spot near the Chatham Street roundabout, right across from Vicious Fishes Brewery and South Line Brewing Co.
The plan includes 213 apartments, more than 5,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, and structured parking.
Amenities could include a pool, courtyard, rooftop deck, fitness center, clubroom, coworking lounge, and community gathering space.
So this is not just more housing.
It’s another step toward making downtown Cary feel even more walkable, connected, and active.
▷ 7001 Weston
A few miles away, Kane Realty is also proposing 7001 Weston, which would replace an aging office building with a five-story apartment community.
This project could bring up to 275 apartments, 5,000 square feet of retail, and a greenway connection along Weston Parkway.
The plan also includes reserving 5% of the units as affordable housing for households earning at or below 80% of area median income for at least 30 years.
The developers also plan to keep the new building close to the existing footprint, helping preserve nearby parking and mature trees as a buffer for surrounding neighborhoods.
▷ Why this matters for Cary
Here’s the big picture.
One project adds density near downtown Cary. The other reimagines an older suburban office site for housing and retail.
Together, they show how Cary is growing in two directions at once.
More walkable downtown development.
More housing near established corridors.
And more pressure to rethink how older sites can serve the town’s future.
Both projects are still moving through planning and rezoning, so nothing is finalized yet.
But if they move forward?
Cary’s growth map could look very different in the next few years.
